Digital Manufacturing
As part of the transformation from an on-premise to a cloud-based system landscape, Softproviding is pursuing the vision of making its shopfloor products compliant with the ISA 95 standard for MES (Manufacturing Execution System). It uses the SAP-BTP (Business Technology Platform) platform as a basis.
In order to achieve a clear distinction between planning, material procurement, distribution and production processes, the existing products of the industry solution SAP Meat and Fish Management by msg for S/4 HANA will be divided into the following two product families:
- Food Management by msg
- Shopfloor Management by msg
The products’ functions are implemented according to the SaaS model (Software as a Service) and made available to end users. The Shopfloor Management by msg product includes functions for controlling and monitoring production processes either in combination with SAP DM (Digital Manufacturing) or MES systems from other manufacturers. It is planned to complete the transformation from an on-premise to a cloud-based SAP-BTP system landscape in two phases.
Phase 1
The existing functionalities of the second and third ISA 95 levels of SAP Meat and Fish Management, Dairy Management and Classified Procurement are identified and implemented as BTP services under the new product name Shopfloor Management (SFM) by msg.
Due to existing customer requirements regarding the shopfloor implementation based on SAP DM, the focus of the first SFM release is to provide services necessary to deliver meat specific processes in the working areas Disassembly, Further Processing and Packaging in cooperation with SAP. For this purpose, a proof of concept (PoC) study was conducted together with the SAP DM product department from March to August 2023. The aim of the PoC study was to work out which standard DM functionalities need to be made extensible in order to be able to implement meat-specific process functions in DM.
Involving customers in the design activities of the meat-specific process functions ensures that future product functionalities will be even better tailored to customers’ needs.
The delivery date for the first SFM release is scheduled for January 2025.
Phase 2
The existing functionalities of SAP Meat and Fish Management, Dairy Management and Classified Procurement, which are not part of Shopfloor Management, will be implemented as BTP services under the new product name of Food Management by msg.
After completion of the second phase, all functionalities of SAP Meat and Fish Management, Dairy Management and Classified Procurement will be available on the SAP-BTP platform.
