Shop-Floor Applications in Slaughtering
Meat Management by Softproviding is an SAP ERP add-on for the meat industry that enables industry-specific processes to be mapped. What may not be apparent to prospective users at first glance is the fact that the numerous shop-floor applications in various sectors form a significant part of Meat Management by Softproviding. Meat Management also makes it possible to integrate devices with these applications. You can find out more here, here and here.
In this newsletter, we will take a closer look at the Meat Management shop-floor applications used most frequently in Slaughtering.
Livestock reception
The unloading and receipt of livestock delivered to the factory by truck can be recorded using an application for livestock reception. A livestock reception can be linked to an existing stock reservation and can therefore create a reference for planning, or can be created without a stock reservation. In livestock reception, data such as the slaughtering method (in-house, third-party or contract slaughtering) or the load category is recorded. Then the livestock reception lots are entered. Depending on the customer- and country-specific requirements, a lot can contain data on an individual animal (e.g. cattle) or a group of animals (e.g. pigs, sheep, poultry etc.). Typical data at the lot level includes the supplier (other partners can also be recorded), the number of animals, findings, breed, quality program or husbandry type.
Veterinary station
At the veterinary station, the slaughter data records are created and the findings on the individual animals (cattle, pigs, sheep) or the group of animals (poultry) are entered. It is possible to record different types of findings (e.g. confiscated organs, defective body parts) and to configure the specific nature of the findings (e.g. liver fluke, burns, broken leg) in the system. These findings are not just informative in nature; they can also influence the subsequent processes. This may be the case, for example, if a finding triggers further tests and the carcasses must therefore be quarantined. If an animal must be disposed of, the findings can also ensure that the supplier does not receive a credit memo and is billed for the disposal.
Classification and weighing terminal
The classification and weighing terminal is primarily for recording quality data, usually relating to an individual animal (e.g. cattle, pigs) or, alternatively, a group of animals (e.g. poultry). This can be done, for example, by connecting classification devices (e.g. AutoFOM, color measurement) or by recording data manually (e.g. EUROP, CHTAX). As soon as the carcass is put on the scales, its weight is determined and all the data is stored in the slaughter data record. In some countries, classification and weighing must take place at different terminals for legal reasons. If this is necessary, these areas can therefore also be kept separate.
With the SAP GUI transactions available in Meat Management by Softproviding, process data from the slaughter can also be recorded, or the process data recorded with the shop-floor applications can be processed. The processes in livestock procurement and slaughtering can also be flexibly configured. Depending on the requirements, data can be stored for individual animals or groups of animals (partners, animal data, quality data, findings etc.).
By opting to use the Softproviding shop-floor applications, customers can benefit from added value across the entire line. Existing MES systems can also be integrated with ease.
