Migros Industrie Takes Test Management to a New Level

1,000 processes. One smart plan. Alongside innovative products like SAP Meat and Fish and SAP Dairy Management, Softproviding, in partnership with msg Test & Quality Management, supports companies in securing and optimizing software quality at both a strategic and operational level.

The example of Migros Industrie shows how successful this approach is: since 2020, it has been relying on this expertise for the migration of its SAP R/3 systems to S/4HANA – primarily for the operation and further development of the migrated systems.

With the new industry business process box ONE Smart Solution, Migros plans to migrate more than 1,000 processes without interrupting ongoing operations. The first pilot has already been successfully completed.

Migros Industrie takes test management to a new level

However, as the project progressed, it became clear that more efficiency in test management, modern test tools and optimized processes was needed to achieve these ambitious goals. Quality assurance was to be raised to a new level in parallel with migration.

The msg approach: rethink – transform – manage

Following this approach, msg Test & Quality Management analyzed the existing test processes and concepts together with Migros. Based on msg best practices, targeted recommendations for action were developed and directly implemented, including:

  • Revision of the test concept
  • Introduction of test automation
  • Use of OpenText ALM Octane as the leading test tool
  • Establishment of a test management office (TMO) with German-speaking experts at the msg Nearshore location
  • Nearshore test automation with the same experienced team

Tangible successes

These measures led to:

  • Improved software quality
  • Greater transparency in all test phases
  • More efficient processes
  • Reduced workload for specialist departments
  • Noticeable cost advantages

In addition, the IT Migros Industry business unit positioned itself as an innovation enabler within the Migros Group. The new ONE testing and test management processes are now also being successfully implemented in other areas of the company.
