Cloud-Bound: Shopfloor Management

As shared in our Newsletter 10/23, Softproviding began development of its new cloud-based product, Shopfloor Management (SFM), in early 2024. This initiative marks a key milestone in the company’s strategic transition from an on-premise to a cloud-centric system landscape, leveraging the capabilities of the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). The initial release centers on a production execution solution, built upon SAP Digital Manufacturing Execution (DMe),  and designed for smooth integration with both SAP ERP on-premise and SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition.

 

 

Key Pillars of the System Architecture

Side-by-side UI5 applications

Developed with the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP), these applications extend the Digital Manufacturing (DM) data model by incorporating additional business entities not natively covered (see illustration, item 1). The following entities are included:

  • Barcode Schema
  • Component Replacement Rules
  • Labeling Order
  • Origin Control
  • Tare Configuration

 

SAP Digital Manufacturing Cloud Integration (CI) iFlows

These extend the standard Digital Manufacturing (DM) business objects—Production Order and Process Order—with industry-specific data from the ERP system, tailored to the meat and fish sector (2).

 

SAP DM Workflow Extensions

Meat and Fish Management BAPI calls facilitate Catch Weight Management (CWM) goods movements within connected ERP systems (3).

 

SAP DM Production Processes

These processes leverage ODATA V4 APIs delivered by side-by-side SFM services on the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) (4).

 

DM UI and Execution Plugins

The standard Digital Manufacturing (DM) Production Operator Dashboards (PODs) are enhanced with industry-specific user interfaces and real-time integrations with devices such as scales, barcode scanners, and label printers (5).

  • SAP Fiori-compliant user experience, based on SAP UI5 design principles
