Meat and Fish Management Migration from ECC to S/4HANA

Various customers have already taken the step of migrating from ECC to S/4HANA. On the one hand, this is due to the deadline set by SAP, according to which the switch from old ERP sys-tems to S/4HANA must be completed by 2027. At the same time, the concrete advantages in terms of future viability, cloud technologies and AI that an S/4HANA migration brings are compelling.

As an S/4HANA migration is a time and resource- consuming project, our service experts will do their best to support you with your migration project. This can be limited to individual in-dustry solutions such as SAP Meat and Fish Management by msg or it can affect your entire system landscape.

In this article, we will focus on the industry-specific part. Depending on the customer’s release, it may be necessary to carry out additional steps.

The first step is to analyze and list all processes. For this purpose, a readiness check is conduct-ed in which any customer-specific developments are identified. All processes and develop-ments are evaluated using an analysis tool and assessed with costs (greenfield/brownfield). In addition, the degree of complexity and the associated risk (e.g., interfaces to legacy systems, databases, tracking and tracing systems) are determined.

The Simplification List is used to analyze the impact of customer-specific developments, sizing for SAP S/4HANA, recommended SAP Fiori apps to replace existing transactions, relevant sim-plification items and more.

For all industry-specific processes, we determine whether they can be mapped in our current version and what changes are likely to be required. In addition, a proposal is drawn up as to the areas in which optimization would make sense and the costs involved. A typical example is the traceability function, which is used by many customers and has been provided with a wealth of new functions in S/4 and therefore promises significant potential for optimization and simplifi-cation.

Of course, customers who use our proprietary tools such as DPS-RAF, DGA, DGC or CommServ-er will also have this aspect examined accordingly. As a rule, migration to S/4HANA is also possible here without any problems, but it can make sense to opt for the latest functionalities – the Template Applications or msg.IoTX are worth mentioning here – and replace existing appli-cations.

In addition, >msgFIT is available to you for automated overall analysis, which fully examines the use of the systems by its users, authorizations as well as licensing and development. msgFIT identifies cost driv-ers, for example by comparing them with current benchmarks on user behavior, but also risks in the SAP applications and points out potential for improvement. For this purpose, a special ABAP program is imported into the relevant SAP systems, which automatically reads out all data relating to the use of transactions, customizing settings and authorizations, as well as performance indicators and technical information. One result can be the creation of process models for the migration to SAP S/4HANA.
